OF AFRICAN PETITIONS: PANTIES AND PRESIDENCY

The Kenyan Supreme Court has ordered a rerun of the country’s presidential election, after a legal challenge by the opposition. In light of the recent petition to the Zimbabwean government to stop ZodwaWaBantu, a South African dancer and socialite from participating at the country’s upcoming carnival because she does not wear underwear. The Kenyans have had their petition to annul the victory of Uhuru Kenyatta who won the Kenyan election last month granted.
Four out of six judges upheld the petition filed by opposition candidate Raila Odinga, who claimed the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta was fraudulent.

“The Presidential election was not conducted in accordance with the constitution, rendering the declared results invalid, null and void” Chief Justice David Maraga said. Fresh elections are to be held within 60 days.

Democracy has been practiced in the highest order in the East African nation. This is an act which many African countries should emulate, hoping that it does not end in civil strife as that would be detrimental to the nation as well as Africa at large as it is the largest economy in East Africa since it is a crucial trade route to the continent and provides an all-important buffer of stability within the region bearing in mind that region includes Somalia as well as the two Sudanese nations.
